“12th Annual Caribbean Health Summit urges Attendees to make Prevention a Priority”

ORLANDO, Fla. – August 26, 2014– Chronic diseases are the most common and costly of all health problems, but they are also the most preventable. The 12th Annual Caribbean Health Summit offers an opportunity for the community to learn important strategies to prevent illness, improve wellness and quality of life. This free community event will take place on Saturday, September 6, 2014 from 8:00am to 2:30pm at the Central Florida Fair & Exposition Park (Fairgrounds), located at 4603 West Colonial Drive, Orlando.

The theme of this year’s event “Hope for Healing” emphasizes healing of the mind, body, and spirit. The summit will offer mammogram screening on Friday, September 5th and on Saturday, September 6th by appointment only. To schedule a free mammogram screening, please call (407) 648-9440 ext. 14.  Many other health screenings will be made available, such as: Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), Dental Exams, Body Mass Index, Total Cholesterol and blood Pressure.

This family fun event will also include a Kid’s Corner and activities for adults of any age including Zumba.

“I believe that it’s important to have healthy behaviors! Healthy behavior impacts the way we think and I believe have a direct impact on our emotions. When we feel good about ourselves we behave differently, there is less tension and it raises our self-esteem. The bible says it is God’s desire that we prosper and be in health as our souls prosper. The Caribbean health summit will have a wealth of knowledge and information that will allow any person and family to begin the start to healthy living,” said Pastor Frank E. Thompson, President of Youth Central.

The summit is hosted by the Center for Multicultural Wellness and Prevention Inc. (CMWP) in collaboration with the Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce of Florida Inc., the Greater Haitian American Chamber of Commerce of Orlando, Florida Department of Health in Orange County and Florida Hospital.
